Program
Profile
This unique program serves adults 55 years and older by helping
them find employment. Program participants often include people
who have either been forced to leave their jobs prior to retirement
or retirees who must return to the work force to supplement their
social security or pension income.
Job
counselors and developers use a variety of techniques to bring workers
and employers together. Along with job counseling and training,
these employment specialists facilitate job placement by promoting
the benefits of utilizing mature, experienced and reliable workers
to potential employers.
Job seekers and employers may also benefit from
federal, state and local programs administered by the Council on
Aging which may subsidize a portion of an employee's wages for the
short (and when necessary) long term and/or provide on the-job-training.
Employment opportunities include work with non-profit
organizations as well as private and public firms.
This program is among California's most successful
in part because it not only offers counseling, vocational testing,
training, resume assistance and job placement, but also referrals
to other senior services that may play a role in enabling a person
to return to work.
